- Broadcast – the simultaneous transmission of the same message to multiple recipients.
- Broadcast Address – an IP address that is used to target all systems on a specific subnet.
- CRC – Cyclic Redundancy Check.
- Data Link Layer – is the protocol layer in a program that handles the moving of data into and out of a physical link in a network.
- Datagram – basic transfer unit associated with a packet-switched network.
- De-encapsulation – the process used by a receiving device to remove one or more of the protocol headers.
- Device ID – string of numbers and letters that identifies every individual smartphone or tablet in the world.
- Encapsulation – the bundling of data with the methods that operate on that data, or the restricting of direct access to some of an object's components.
- EUI-48 – a concatenation of the 24-bit company-id value by the IEEE Registration Authority and a 24-bit extension identifier assigned by the organization with that company-id assignment.
- Frame – digital data transmission unit in computer networking and telecommunication.
- FCS – Frame Check Sequence.
- Internet Layer – a group of internetworking methods, protocols, and specifications.
- IP – Internet Protocol.
- IP Address – a unique address that identifies a device on the Internet or a local network.
- Link Layer – the lowest layer in the Internet Protocol Suite, the networking architecture of the Internet.
- Logical Address – the address at which an item (memory cell, storage element, network host) appears to reside from the perspective of an executing application program.
- Logical Addressing – The process associated with Logical Addressing.
- LLC – Logical Link Control.
- MAC – Media Access Control.
- MAC Address – is a hardware identification number that uniquely identifies each device on a network.
