A+ Chapter 27 Power Words - Defined

Chapter 27 – Printers and Multi function Devices

  1. American Standard Code for Information Interchange (ASCII) -  is a character encoding standard for electronic communication  is a character encoding standard for electronic communication
  2. Dot-matrix printer - process of computer printing from a collection of dot matrix data to a device, which can be one of: Impact dot matrix printers non-impact dot matrix printers, such as inkjet, thermal, or laser printers.
  3. Dots per inch (DPI) -  measure of spatial printing, video or image scanner dot density, in particular the number of individual dots that can be placed in a line within the span of 1 inch
  4. Duplexing assembly - is required to print two-sided output on a laser printer
  5. Dye-sublimation printer - computer printer which uses heat to transfer dye onto materials such as a plastic, card, paper, or fabric
  6. Graphical Device Interface (GDI) -  built-in support for Windows Graphical Device Interface
  7. Impact Printer - work by banging a head or needle against an ink ribbon to make a mark on the paper
  8. Inkjet Printer - a type of computer printing that recreates a digital image by propelling droplets of ink onto paper and plastic substrates
  9. Laser - device that emits light through a process of optical amplification based on the stimulated emission of electromagnetic radiation
  10. Laser Printer – Printer that uses lasers to create and print the image
  11.  Material Safety Data Sheet (MSDS) - document that provides workers with procedures for safely handling or working with a particular substance
  12. PostScript - files are created by vendors to describe the entire set of features and capabilities available for their PostScript printers
  13. Multifunction Device (MFD) - an office machine which incorporates the functionality of multiple devices in one
  14. Imaging Drum - the heart of the laser printer or the copier. It transfers the print image, consisting of toner, onto the paper.
  15. Imaging Process - the heart of the laser printer or the copier. It transfers the print image, consisting of toner, onto the paper.
  16. Near-Letter Quality (NLQ) - the text output of dot matrix printers and some thermal printers, which is not as crisp as that of laser and inkjet printers
  17. Photosensitive Drum – revolving bet  which is capable of holding an electrostatic charge on its surface while it is in the dark.
  18. Primary Corona - thin wire; there are several corona wires involved in the print process. Optical Resolution -  produces intense x rays and extremely high temperatures and pressures for high-energy-density experiments
  19. Pages per Minute (ppm) -  gives you the speed at which a particular printer can print a page of text in black ink
  20. Optical Resolution -  produces intense x rays and extremely high temperatures and pressures for high-energy-density experiments
